Christie Park is a beautiful family neighbourhood in the south-west quadrant of Calgary. Conveniently located directly west on Bow Trail, it is a short drive to downtown and has the new LRT line for commuters.
The land was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1956 from the Municipal District of Rocky View. Christie Park was established as a neighbourhood in 1990. It rises on a gentle slope just west of Sarcee Trail and north of 17th Avenue SW. Many home offer stunning city views on ridge lots. You’ll know you’re in Christie by the strict architectural controls in place that allow for homes with rich colors of brick and unique light standards that differ from those in most communities.
The community is separated from Strathcona Community by a beautiful treed ravine with bike and walking trails. Numerous upgrades to the path system in the ravine have been done to enhance the natural beauty of the ravine. Although it is not designated an off-leash area, it is a gorgeous and not to strenuous path for you to take your dog for an on-leash walk.
There is a centrally located soccer field and a park that has had equipment upgraded and replaced in recent years. This community does assess a Homeowner’s Fee annually and that helps maintain the beautiful flower pots and gardens throughout this neighborhood. The fee also helps to maintain a community tennis court, accessible only to those living in Christie Estates.
The west end of Calgary has become one of the most desirable new districts in the city. Wooded landscapes, panoramic mountain vistas and easy LRT access to downtown make it the perfect location for luxury estate and affordable residences alike. Residents enjoy their newest shopping center, Aspen Landing.
You’ll find Christie Park and Estates are in close proximity to several grocery stores, all within a 5-10 minute walk or drive: Safeway, Coop, Sobey’s, Sunterra Market and my personal favorite Blush Lane Organic Market.
The facilities and athletic programs for young and old alike at the Westside Rec Center are outstanding. Take your kids to enjoy the wave pool and slide or swim laps or take lessons. Upstairs is a massive running track and programs include a state of the art Spin Class with virtual rides. The Westside programs have become a social hub for all ages. Join a few friends and head to Waves Coffee shop in Springborough after class.
Aspen Woods is a member of the SCCA, Strathcona Christie & Aspen Community Center where the hall is rented out for special events, community classes and a community run skating rink. A Child’s Garden is a Pre-School that is offered in the Community Center as well.
Check the Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School Board websites for current school locations and/or busing programs. Many of the local schools in the area are capped and students are being bussed to neighboring communities so it’s important to check in advance. Nearby Springborough has an outstanding pre-school program called Brite Studios.
Aspen Hills is surrounded by a number of private schools, please check their websites for location, programs and space availability: Rundle College Junior and Senior High, Calgary Academy, Webber Academy, Calgary Waldorf and the Calgary French School.
Here are a number of listings available in this community. Please contact me by phone or text if you would like to preview any of these beautiful homes.
