Head west on 17th Avenue, reach the top of the hill and look right, you’ll find an estate community that’s close to work, play and everything in-between. Aspen Woods is set among acres of rolling hills, natural ravines and stands of native aspen trees. In fact, it is such a new community that you’ll find plots of land that once served as farmland in years gone by. That’s rapidly changing as new homes are well under construction. A stunning setting that is only minutes from downtown, but far from ordinary.
Close to established communities, shops, schools, recreation centres and entertainment venues, Aspen Woods is the natural place to call home. While Aspen Hills has more affordable housing, Aspen Estates is home to some of the most expensive real estate.
The west end of Calgary has become one of the most desirable new districts in the city. Wooded landscapes, panoramic mountain vistas..
and easy LRT access to downtown make it the perfect location for luxury estate and affordable residences alike.
It’s important to note that many homes in this community are considered Bareland Condos and do have an associated condo fee, even though they are unattached and sit on private lots as do typical residential detached homes. These Bareland Condo street have Boards, meetings, annual general meetings and handle the affairs of common property shared by the homeowners. They were built to accommodate differing street features, such as narrower roads, different light standards, and different sidewalk configurations. It’s important your realtor discuss the ramifications of this before buying or selling a home that is a Bareland Condo. Further information can be found on this website.
Local residents enjoy their newest shopping center, Aspen Landing, where you’ll find grocery stores, flower shops, Filly Lilly, veterinarians, and a great selection of restaurants.
You’ll find Aspen Hills and Estates have several grocery stores to choose from all within a 5-10 minute drive: Safeway, Coop, Sobey’s, Sunterra Market and my personal favorite Blush Lane Organic Market.
The facilities and athletic programs for young and old alike at the Westside Rec Center are outstanding. Take your kids to enjoy the wave pool and slide or swim laps or take lessons. Upstairs is a massive running track and programs include a state of the art Spin Class with virtual rides.
Aspen Woods is a member of the SCCA, Strathcona Christie + Aspen Community Center where the hall is rented out for special events, community classes and a community run skating rink. A Child’s Garden is a Pre-School that is offered in the Community Center as well.
Check the Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School Board websites for current school locations and/or busing programs. Many of the local schools in the area are capped and students are being bussed to neighboring communities so it’s important to check in advance. I believe there is a new Catholic school that may be built near the Westhills Shopping Center. I haven’t confirmed this yet, but stay tuned!
Nearby Springborough has an outstanding pre-school program called Brite Studios. With the following programs: Kindergarten, Preschool, Art, Music, Dance, Karate, Wondertime Age 2-3 and Reading.
Aspen Hills is surrounded by a number of private schools, please check their websites for location, programs and space availability: Rundle College Junior and Senior High, Calgary Academy, Webber Academy, Calgary Waldorf and the Calgary French School.
Here are a number of listings available in this community. Please contact me by phone or text if you would like to preview any of these beautiful homes.
